i must bring it up. after being raw off and on for a while now, i noticed my stools are green. now in addition, my parents noted that my skin is yellow, proceeded to freak out and freak me out a bit, and asked if my stools are white (no!) however i wonder if anyone else has read up on or experienced green stools, or yellow skin?

Re: raw stools and yellow skin
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 5:22 AMWhat are you eating, exactly?
These 2 things may not be related. Yellowing skin is jaundice, which itself is not a disease, but a symptom with multiple causes...from the benign to the serious. I'm guessing your parents asked about white stool because it is a sign of liver problems, which can also be accompanied by jaundice. But I'm no doctor.
Are you getting enough sun? How's your fluid intake? Getting any exercise to speak of? How old are you?
Green isn't an issue, but yellow is. If it doesn't clear up soon, I'd see a doctor. -

Re: raw stools and yellow skin
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 11:55 PMwell you need to determine if it is yellow as in jaundice, or yellow-orange from beta-carotene overload. The former could be a serious condition, the latter a harmless reaction to maybe too many greens in your smoothies. I've done some reading on the topic of beta carotene overdose (not truly a toxicity since it's not dangerous, just strange) and learned that not only carrots cause the skin to turn color. Anything high in beta carotene, as in chard, kale, spinach, etc. can cause it. That would probably also cause your poop to be green. So are you eating bunches of greens daily or what?
