allright, I wanna hear from you folks that regularly make green smoothies. I have pretty much the same thing, with a rotation of greens. looking for some inspiration, some exciting new recipes. Who pushes beyond the "fruit + greens = smoothie" formula? share share share!!!
here is my regular morning thing.
1 avocado
1-2 pieces of fruit ( apple or pear)
ginger
fresh nutmeg
whole bunch of parsley,
half head of romaine (or other greens) usually as much as I can get in the blender
maybe some maca or bee pollen
celtic sea salt
water
your turn!
bless
craig

Sat, April 5, 2008 - 10:09 AMI don't know if this would count because its not green...but thought i'd share
do you mind sharing wat you mean by green? (like are you making it green for the specific nutrition or something else?)
i just made this too, and its so good
you dont need to be specific in measuring
handful or two of mixed berries
spoonful of Chyawanprash (my kundalini yoga teacher told me about this product)
some cranberry pomegranet juice
then blend together
enjoy

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 10:26 AMhey mina. By green I am referring to the copious amounts of fresh leafy greens I throw in there. there is a bit of a trend in this green smoothie thing, as Viktoria Boutenko of the raw family has written a book about this way of maximizing your intake of green veggies.
Hey, bring on your non green smoothie recipes too peeps!
oh mina, what is chyawanprash, and where would one buy it?

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 8:27 AMwell, my daily green drinks contain many "food items" and here's how it goes:
1/2 banana
a few baby carrots
soy milk
fruit or carrot juice or amazon herb tea
plain yogurt
green kamut powder
camu camu powder
goji berries
freshly ground flax seed or chia seeds
handfuls of spinach or kale (or both), sometimes cabbage
blueberries or mixture of berries
sounds like ALOT but it sure gets me going and keeps me going well into the afternoon...has converted my boyfriend (because of the noticable "jolt" in the morning) and he's eating less meat and potatoes which used to be a staple for him. I sometimes add stevia for him...
I'll throw in other seasonal fruit, ginger, celery or schizandra berries sometimes as well depending on the day. it's pretty much, look in the fridge and on the counter and go for it...my vitamix is the most used appliance in my household.
I love hearing what everyone else is doing out there too...
many blessings,
Dawna -

chyawanprash is an ayurvedic recipe.
it come in the form of paste. some use it as a spread
the main ingredient is amla(a really sour fruit know for it's extra potent vitamine C)
i think its pretty hard to find...
but east indian food shops might carry it. -

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Tue, April 8, 2008 - 1:31 AMyes, Chyawanprash (pronounced "shoven-prush") is very good for immune support. Unfortunately it's loaded with refined sugar, as many things are in India. For some reason the Ayurvedic doctors don't seem to find anything wrong with white sugar. Most Indian groceries will have it, or you can buy it online.
I think it's kind of funny when people share their morning smoothie recipes--it's kind of like getting a webcam view of their life in the morning. here is my usual smoothie:
homemade almond milk
splash of fresh apple juice
banana
berries (acai if i have it)
mango or papaya
kiwi
pineapple sometimes
a few leaves of chard, kale, or handful of spinach
if i want to last longer without having to eat, i throw in a few cashews
once in a while i crave yogurt in my smoothie. I'm not sure if i should be eating it or not. I would feel better about it if i were making it myself and starting with organic raw goat's milk. When i get my excalibur i will try doing this.
I think i eat way too much fruit in the morning, but it sure tastes good. I make a double batch and bottle up half of it for later in the morning. Then i only have to eat a salad later and some nuts, maybe another piece of fruit. I have come to really enjoy hardly eating anything but feeling totally satisfied and nourished. -

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Tue, April 8, 2008 - 8:54 AMCheck this out!
www.ascendedhealth.com/nutrig...ash.htm
this is a vegan version of chyavanprash - sweetened with agave, and with a base of raw coconut oil instead of ghee! there's also a non-vegan version that includes elk antler velvet, a major tonic in eastern medicine. I had the fine pleasure of meeting the guy who makes this stuff, and the elk are not harmed to get their antler velvet, they shed their antlers anyway (FYI) -

Thu, April 17, 2008 - 6:30 PMHi Craig....I am not familiar with maca, so I looked it up and it is used as an aphrodesiac for male/female dysfunction...is there another use that you're aware of...
nothing personal but wondered why you would put it in your every day smoothie lol -

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 7:03 PM...cause i am such a dirty boy! hahaha...
It certainly can have that effect, but it also acts as a hormonal balancer. It helps to naturally improve physical stamina and energy levels. I am a very physical being, and have had issues with chronic low energy, and maca definitely helps. It has been used by the indigenous peoples of peru to increase physical strength and overall vitality.
I tend to cycle my use of maca. take it for a while, take a break, take it again when I feel called.

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:04 AMAcai is a berry from Brazil All I know is that it became all the craze a little while ago when Booster Juice started putting it in their smoothies, and now I see other juices listing Acai as an ingredient. Oh, and according to the brief jaunt I took into cyberland it's supposed to be a superfood.

Re: crazy green drink recipes
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:45 PMhi jeannie, there is no stimulant effect ( like caffiene etc.). it is simply very nourishing to the system. I encourage you to research it. I am sooooo sensitive to stimulants, I totally avoid coffee tea etc. and maca feels great for me.
